Doug & Steve
Introduction:
Hi, we’re Doug & Steve! We are thankful to be considered for the commitment and responsibility of being dads. As husbands and best friends, we knew that adoption would play a role in our lives over a decade ago when we first met. Seeing our loved ones raise their amazing kids as we matured, we knew we would jump at the chance to embrace the joys and challenges of parenthood. Ultimately, our hope is to offer a nurturing, loving, and supportive home to a child.
Before we started this journey, adoption had already touched our lives. Steve was adopted by his stepfather in his teens. Since then, his love and respect for his stepfather is stronger than ever. He now understands the dedication involved for adoptive parents. Later, we lived with a friend who pursued adoption as an expectant mother. That experience opened our eyes to the incredible courage and strength of birth mothers. Adoption has always been part of our family’s story; we hope to be part of a child’s story as adoptive parents because it reflects our love and values.
About Us:
Doug is a kind, thoughtful and dedicated person; his presence at family gatherings always brings brightness and joy. When Steve first met Doug, he volunteered at a homeless shelter and tutored math. He always had the ability to teach, inspire and motivate others in tough situations. As a native of New Jersey, he is an avid hiker and cyclist in all seasons; he is also fond of anything to do with cars. He hopes to share his knowledge and passions with a child one day.
Doug is excited to share his love of cars with anyone who will listen, he can tell you what model a car is or even when it was made. As a Dad, he’ll be the first to offer a ride anywhere you want to go... so long as you also get Italian food with him. He’ll even sneak you some Halloween candy he saved for dessert.
Steve is ambitious, creative and jovial; his tribe is as tight knit as they are lively. His close friends have known him for over a decade, and his ability to build strong bonds makes him a great friend and even better husband. He is the first person many call for advice on life and relationships. Having lived in four countries, he now spends his time gardening, cooking, and hiking in New Jersey. Looking ahead, Steve is excited to be a father who can inspire and mentor any passion.
Steve is keen to share his love for the outdoors whether it’s hiking or spotting cool animals. After working up an appetite, he can pretty much cook anything on request; his meals are often better than restaurants. He can also make any costume a kid can dream of for Halloween, which is a favorite holiday of ours.
Family Life
A day in our family starts just like any other, we both wake up early to get a head start. While Doug works at an office, Steve works at home and has a flexible schedule. This way, someone is always at home and available whether it’s school drop-offs, appointments, or any unexpected events. When Doug returns for dinner, we home cook every meal together so that we can also enjoy each other's company. We rarely watch TV after a long dinner because we usually catch up on the day’s happenings.
On the weekends, we have fun activities with family and friends like hiking, biking, or hanging out at the shore. We make it a point to be outdoors with one another whenever possible. On a typical weekend, we can also be helping our neighbors garden or sharing a meal with them and their fun-loving children. While our lives aren’t very exciting, our stable and nurturing lifestyle is a good reflection of our family life and environment.
Our Friends & Family
One unit from two, our family is made of mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins, nieces and nephews. We are a diverse and multilingual crowd, and we are all excited to welcome a new member to our growing family. We’re always there for birthdays, graduations, weddings... especially when there’s good food!
Our close friends are more than just a part of our tribe, we consider them part of our family. They have been an incredible presence in our lives, always there to share big laughs and major moments. They are big supporters of our adoption efforts, and we consider them future aunts and uncles wholeheartedly.
Our Home and Community
We say to each other that we have our forever home because it is everything we wanted in which to raise a family. With plenty of space for four, we also have a large front and backyard perfect for activities and hanging out. Our home is welcoming and comfortable, where you can always have a home-cooked meal or a cozy nap. Our focus is to provide a space for growth, for making memories, and most importantly, for spending time with one another.
“Green” is the one word to describe our neighborhood. There are many accessible parks with huge trees and expansive open spaces. There are tennis courts, baseball fields and playgrounds for all ages. All the local schools are within walking distance, as is our town center and new library.
We have become good friends with many neighbors on our street. In the summertime, there are always children having water fights or playing sports outside. During wintery days, they take to sledding down the local park hills. Our community is full of family activities in all seasons.
Our Message to You
We’re so happy that you took the time to review our album; we really do want the best for you. Our mission is to support your well-being and the well-being of the expected child at every step of the way; we only have a small idea of what you are going through.
With kindness and gratitude, our goal is to provide a child with a place they can feel as though they’ve always belonged, a place they can always call home no matter what. We hope you saw a little bit of what we would be like as parents with good humor, mutual respect, and unconditional love.
We would like to acknowledge that everyone involved, from the expectant mother to the social worker, wants the best outcome for a child. And in many years’ time, we hope that we can all say that we made our best and most loving choice.
